About
Feng Shui
Feng Shui is the Chinese art of placement to enhance positive
flow in our lives and environments. The translation is wind - water, which comes
from the theory that the ideal way the energy (or chi) should flow in our homes
is like the wind and water. It has been practiced in the East for at least six
thousand years, and the West is just starting to realize its benefits.
There are several Feng Shui schools and three that are well known right now.
The Forms School, The Compass School and the Black Hat Sect School.
The Masters of the Forms school of Feng Shui studied the land and looked for
animal and other forms in the landscape, and they used these forms to determine
the most auspicious siting and placement for temples, graves and homes. This
type of Feng Shui was more common in the times when China was mainly a rural
environment.
The Masters of the Compass School utilized astrology, the Four Cardinal directions
and Sacred Geometry, along with a complex set of mystical compasses to divine
the best time and place to build. This became more common when city living began
to dominate in China.
The 3rd main school of Feng Shui is the Black Hat School. The Black Hat Sect
is part of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism. It has a deep origin that includes Indian,
Chinese and Western Teachings. From China, the yin/yang theory was incorporated
into Black Sect Tibetan Buddhism. Feng Shui balances the yin and yang in our
homes through placement, adjustments and enhancements, also known as Feng Shui
cures. In Black Sect Feng Shui, yang is the physical part of the Feng Shui cure,
and the yin part, which is the sincerity and intention behind the Feng Shui
cure, is extremely emphasized.
